B69-78 MARKING GAUGE. Kieffer & Auxer. 11" wooden stem, head with hand carved locking screw, marked by Kieffer & Auxer, Lancaster, PA. Light overall wear and staining but point still sharp, user stamp in a few spots including over the maker's mark. Kieffer & Auxer was a planemaking partnership in Lancaster (2 stars in AWP) from around 1864-1870; Auxer was originally apprenticed to E.W. Carpenter and advertised himself as Carpenter's successor. From the collection of Bill Warner. Good 100-200
