B56-521. MODERN MAKER. Holtey No. 98 Smoothing Plane. The No. 98 was Holtey's first plane designed from scratch rather than a copy of any older design. It features a 9-1/2" stainless steel body assembled with integral rivets rather than dovetails, a bevel-up cutter and rosewood tote and knob. The design was described by planemaker Konrad Sauer as Holtey's most significant contribution to modern planemaking, and by Chris Schwarz simply as "a revelation." A thing of beauty that feels like an extension of your arm. Like new in a felt bag. Karl Holtey is retiring so there won't be any more of them. From a legendary private collection of infill and metal planes. Fine 1200 - 2400 **ALL ABSENTEE BIDS MUST BE RECEIVED BY END OF DAY FRIDAY JUNE 26, 2020.
