B57-429 SURVEYOR'S PLAIN COMPASS. W.C. Davis. Silvered card with fleur-de-lis at north, circle of leaves, and "W.C. Davis New York" at south, 4" steel needle with lifting arm, rack and pinion vernier, crossed levels, the one on the south arm is missing but the screws are present, plain socket. In original box with sighting vanes, S. Thaxter & Son label in lid. Brass has been polished but not obnoxiously. But for the missing level this would be a fine example of a smaller compass by an uncommon maker; it's still pretty nice.
