B57-432 INCLINOMETER. LeFebvre Clitographe J. LeFebvre, who worked in Paris in the late 1800s, was known for these distinctive large inclinometers with a square iron upright frame and level mounted on a brass arm. There are a few variations known; this one is 12" by 10", with a single scale marked in feet for the English market, and without the detachable feet. It is stamped "patent" which we don't recall seeing before. In its original wooden case, in rough shape with a split in the lid but intact. A prior owner has pasted a paper label describing it as a "hornblock gauge" and stating that it comes from a railroad works, which is a term we've not seen applied to these instruments.
