B57-669 COMBINATION SQUARE AND BEVEL. Wm. McNiece Patent. Unmarked but almost certainly an example of the rare try square with a sliding T-bevel in the handle made by Philadelphia sawmaker William McNiece. They are always marked "patent applied for." McNiece did receive an 1859 patent (his first) for a bevel to be attached to a saw blade, but it isn't known if this is the patent referred to. 7" rosewood brass lined handle, the 11" square blade is ruled, unlike most we've seen, and has a mark to lock the bevel blade at 45 degrees. It's been polished which may account for the missing mark, some light corrosion on the blades. Good+ 150-300 **All bids must be placed by end of day Friday, October 30, 2020.
