B58-258 EBONY OCTANT. Very crisp and clean octant with brass arm with unusual decorative engraving, two filters, ivory scale, signature plate and pencil knob. with the original pencil. Unfortunately the maker's name on the signature plate is too worn to read clearly; it could be "Anthony." The lack of a vernier marks it as early. There's an old paper sticker that appears to read "U.S. Navy." Good+ 500-1000
