B58-561 TRANSITIONAL JACK PLANE. Birmingham Plane Co. The faucet-handle style cutter adjustment was patented by Oliver Hayworth of Tarkio, MO, in 1893, and was yet another failed attempt to compete with the Bailey/Stanley juggernaut. This one is in super clean condition with 15" sole and original marked 2" cutter. The cutter has a little surface oxidation, but the wood is like new and the japanning is 98% and not repainted. Although marked by Birmingham, these were actually manufactured (briefly) by the Derby Plane Co., a successor to Birmingham. A hard plane to find. Fine 150-250
