B58-750 GIMBAL-MOUNTED MINER'S PLUMMET. Heller & Brightly. Form of plumb bob used in mining as a dip meter. The bob itself, rather than being suspended from a line, is mounted in a gimbal suspended from two chains. In addition, the top unscrews and includes a wick for use as a lamp. 5-1/2" long, all brass, stamped "Heller & Brightly Phila" on the gimbal. Brass has a few dings, looks like it was polished a while ago but not obnoxious. Wick is pristine. The best part is that it's in a fitted mahogany case that also includes the glass bottle used to store the oil for the lamp. Heller & Brightly worked in Philadelphia from 1870 through 1912. Fine 800-1200
