B62-400. PLOW PLANE. Piper Patent. Extraordinarily complex design for the fence adjustment, patented in 1881 by Samuel Piper of Newton, Mass. Instead of sliding, the fence is adjusted by two hinged brass arms and locked in place by a wing that is locked by a large thumbscrew at the top. Only two examples are know, both of which are shown on page 79 of PTAMPIA I; this is the one with a maple body and rosewood wedge in Figure 86.
