B62-634. PLOW PLANE. Cowell & Chapman Patent. Unlike the Yanks, the Brits didn't make that many screw arm plows, but when they did, they did it right. The Cowell & Chapman patent has a combination brass and red beech body with a pivoting brass lever cap and depth stop mechanism. Rosewood nuts, elaborately turned finials on the arms. Most of them are unmarked but this one is stamped "Cowell & Chapman. Newcastle-on-Tyne" on the right cheek - it's faint, but legible with magnification. Reglued split in rear nut and a few dings. There's a T. Hildick iron in the plane, and it also comes with a complete numbered set of Colquhoun & Chapman irons. From the collection of Steve Dice. Fine 1500-3000
