B62-644. BLOCK PLANE. Boston Metallic Tool Co. The basic design is based on Baldwin's 1873 patent; the cutter is bent down on the end to engage the brass adjustment screw, which is the adjustment mechanism used in the Hardy patent bench planes, but is rarely seen it in a block plane. Compare PTAMPIA I, Figures 182a and 182b. The design on the slide in lever cap isn't the typical shield, but a six-pointed figure. 7" sole, 1-1/2" cutter, not signed. Looks like there was once a front knob, small chip from throat. When Boston Metallic went out of business, other planemakers bought out its inventory, and this may have been made by a successor. Very unusual plane. From the collection of Cliff Sapienza. Good+ 150-250
