These gizmos, consisting of a hatchet with a plane iron mounted in the head, were produced around the 1950s and show up, frequently in near unused condition in their original boxes. They were manufactured by the Plane-Axe Corporation of Providence, and are often marked either "patent pending" or patented, although no patent has been located.
