B63-438. DECORATIVELY CARVED 1853 BENCH PLANE. 11" sole with European style horn, 1-3/8" unmarked cutter, spalled. Two holes for transverse handles. Body is a dark brown wood, wedge birch. Both cheeks have decorative fluting, there is a Christogram as well as initials and date ahead of the throat. Large chip from right cheek just behind the toe, smoothed over with age.
