B63-441. ROSEWOOD FORE PLANE. Unsigned, 17" sole with 1-7/8" Buck Bros. double cutter. Dark rosewood razee body and wedge with attractive grain. The tote is a lighter wood but still a hardwood. Wood strike button ahead of mouth. There's a skillfully reglued split in the tote and long chip in the right cheek, and an old wear plate ahead of the mouth. Undoubtedly made by a nineteenth century shipyard worker with access to exotic foreign woods in the days when rosewood was used to make packing crates. From the collection of Pat Gefre. Fine 100-200
