Massive brass scale with 38" arms, sliding brass weights on both arms that are calibrated to weigh up to 1,000 pounds, also includes five additional weights that can be hung from it to weigh heavier amounts. Marked only "Fairbanks Patent." Erastus and Thaddeus Fairbanks, of St. Johnsbury, VT, had a number of scale patents, including several the details of which were lost in the 1836 patent office fire, so we're not sure which one this is. They went on to found E. & T. Fairbanks, the premier scale maker of the 1800s. Very clean and will look impressive hanging on your wall. Fine 150-250
