York2024-269. JOINTER. Sanford Patent. One of the earliest cutter adjustments, patented in 1844 by Levi Sanford of New York. There's an example on page 17 of PTAMPIA I, marked as having been manufactured by A. & E. Baldwin. This one is unmarked, but Roger speculates that the mechanism may have been fitted into conventional planes. Patent date and name clearly marked on the mechanism holding the adjusting screw under the cutter. 22" long with open tote. Wood very clean, and a rare example of an important early patent. From the collection of Cliff Sapienza. Good+ 300-600
