B64-301. BOXED SET OF EVERLASTING CHISELS. G.E. Wood Tool Co. In 1911, Stanley entered the chisel business by its purchase of G.E Wood Tool Co. which gave it ownership of a series of patents by the father and son team of George A. and George E. Wood, who revolutionized chisel design by providing a one-piece steel blade and shank extending completely through the handle and peened to form the striking end. (Previously, Stanley had marketed the chisels made by Wood.) This complete set represents the Wood output prior to Stanley?s acquisition, and is, as far as we know, unique. 12 bevel edge chisels, from 1/8" to 2", 11" long with ash handles, held by spring clips in original wooden box with two labels identifying it as set No. 71. The box has some wear but the chisels are close to perfect. The last time we sold this set it brought $13,750; we're estimating it a little lower to be conservative but it deserves to break that record. Condition: Fine, Estimate: 6000-10000
