B67-222 SET OF TRYING WEDGES. S.C. Lumsden. A set of 20 wedges graduated in size; they were used singly or in multiples to gauge the wedge slot in a newly cut plane throat and then used as a template for a new molding. Probably the same set from the Lumsden factory described in the Fourth edition of Goodman's British Planemakers. A similar set is illustrated in on page 415 of Volume II of Ken Roberts' Wooden Planes in 19th Century America. In a wooden holder designed to be hung on the wall. A unique part of planemaking history, and the only one we've ever seen. From the collection of Steve Dice. Fine 300-600
