B67-569 LEVEL WITH POP-UP SIGHTS. Wood Patent. The spring loaded sights on the ends of the level that pop up at the push of a button were patented in 1887 by Oscar Wood of Passaic, NJ. He manufactured some himself, but most were made by H. Chapin and sold through Shapleigh Hardware and Tower & Lyon. This one is a 28" brass-bound, solid mahogany example marked Tower & Lyon No. 15, and also marked with Wood's patent information.
