B68-99 PLATED BRACE. Henry Brown. Beech body with pushbutton chuck marked Henry Brown, and unusual solid brass head with "Henry Brown, Sheffield, Patentee" cast into the center. Wood very clean, brass has mild wear but not polished. Brown's "patent" was actually purchased from one John Bottom in 1845; it was a highly impractical design that Brown never actually manufactured, but it allowed him to advertise his "patented anti-friction" braces. See Eaton, pp 140-41. From the collection of David Jeffers. Good+ 125-250
