B68-119 GOTHIC BEAD PLANE. Mathieson. Uses four cutters, each with a separate side escapement, to cut an elaborate profile that looks like a gothic bead with coves on both sides. Very unusual. The wood has a grain that looks like applewood. Stamped with "Mathieson" and "James Smith" in what look like identical text on the toe. The Mathieson may be T.A. Mathieson who worked briefly in Edinburgh in the 1850s rather than the more commonly found Alex, but we don't know who Smith was. 5/8" marked on the heel. Wood has very light wear. From the collection of Jim and Becky Leamy. Good+ 250-500
