B68-219 BUILDING SET. Stanlo No. 7 IOB. In 1933, in the depths of the Great Depression when nobody was building, Stanley was desperate for new products, and hit on the idea of producing its own line of toys similar to the Erector Sets that had been introduced in 1913. Thus was born the Stanlo Master Building Set which, according to Stanley propaganda, was an instant hit and saved hundreds of New Britain jobs. Unlike Erector Sets, the Stanlo system didn't require nuts and bolts, but consisted of a series of metal plates in various sizes, shapes and colors with loops along the edges that could be joined together by inserting steel rods (like hinges). This is the No. 7 set and includes a large number of plates and steel rods, as well as several wheels and pulleys and two original instruction books. The parts are all clean and rust free and the original cardboard box base has been inserted into wooden finger jointed box, 23" by 11", with label pasted into inside lid, a few paint splotches on wood. Truly for the Stanley collector who has everything, and it actually looks like fun. Good+ 125-250
