B68-474 PATENT MODEL. Washing and Churning Machine. Issued 4/25/1807 to T. Beatty. One of the very rare patent models that survived the patent office fire of 1836 and were later designated "X" patents when the records could be reconstructed. Has an original tag with the patentee and date but no number, and a second tag indicating that it was part of the collection of American Patent Models, Inc., which was formed in 1939 to acquire the Wellcome collection of models. 10" high, and mounted on a 12" by 6" base, it includes a swinging compartment with a grid suspended in the middle and presumably could be used for either for washing clothes or churning butter. In very good condition and moves smoothly. Pre-1836 patent models are extremely rare. Good+ 600-1200
