B68-717 SLIDING T- BEVEL. Traut Patent. Stanley's first bevel, based on Traut's 1871 patent, offered only in 1871-72 and never assigned a model number. 8" unmarked blade with some pitting at end, 5-1/2" iron frame handle with walnut inlay. The small brass tab on the end wasn't described in the patent and appears to have been included to make it easier to open the blade. Marked only "Patent". Uncommon. From the collection of Steve Dice.
