B68-737 CORE BOX PLANE. W.H. Groat? Certainly manufactured, and probably patented, but the patent is unknown. It falls into the same class of core box planes as the Bayley and Lewis patents, with locking fences and a cutter that rotates with each pass of the plane. Appears identical to the plane pictured in PTAMPIA I, Figure 275, which has the name W.H. Groat cast into the fence, except that this one is brass, with partial black paint, rather than cast iron, has a conventional tote, and is missing the Groat name (or any other). It also comes with a set of five different cutters of different sizes and shapes, and a second cutter holder for small cuts, all housed in a repurposed wooden box. The most elaborate core box plane of the type we've seen, and works smoothly. See also lot 537. Fine 400-800
