Y-287. ENCLOSED PLUMB LINE. Janssen Patent. Part of the class of patented levels that enclosed a plumb line inside a wooden sleeve to protect it from the wind and make it supposedly easier to use. An idea that never caught on. This one was patented by one Carsten Diedrich Janssen of Torrington, CT, in 1901, and features a 42" oak box with a suspended lead plumb read through a glass window, and a brass reel to tighten it. As with most examples the plumb line has become detached, and there is some wear to the wood, but the glass window is intact. Good 200-400 **All absentee bids must be placed by end of day, Friday, January 24, 2020. Current high bids can be obtained by calling our office at (800) 248-8114.
