B56-523. MODERN MAKER. Bill Carter Miniature Infill Mitre Plane. Gunmetal body with 4-1/8" dovetailed steel sole, creamy boxwood infill and wedge, 5/8" snecked iron that is marked by Carter but seems a little narrow. Marked on left cheek "R. Groves & Sons Sheffield" with the crown USE mark and on the right cheek "Silver Steel Elastic Spring Temper Warranted." Groves was one of the leading sawmakers of Sheffield but we've never seen a plane marked by him; why Carter chose to mark this plane like a saw is a mystery. Also marked by Carter on the bridge.
