B57-220 DRAFTING INSTRUMENT. Keuffel & Esser No. 1158-1/2 Section Liner. Section lining, also called cross-hatching, means the drawing of fine parallel lines to indicate solid objects in drafting. This particular section liner is identified in K&E catalogs as "Hill's Patent", and is stamped with a 12/18/94 patent date, but we couldn't locate the actual patent (although one Horace Hill, of Cambridge, had a 1901 patent for a section liner that is a little more common, and it could be the same guy). It consists of a right triangle, 7" on a side, pearwood, with a spacing bar that can be adjusted to different distances from the lower leg. The catalog shows a cam-type hook that can be set to different width; this one has a simple hook which may either be a replacement or a cheaper model. Other than that, it's in immaculate shape.
