B57-430 SURVEYOR'S VERNIER COMPASS. Benjamin Pike's Son. Silvered brass card, large fleur-de-lis at north, "B. Pike's Son, 518 Broadway, NY," at south; 5-3/4" blued-steel needle on brass lifting collar, crossed levels on south arm, brass sighting vanes. In a fitted wooden box with original label in lid. Benjamin Pike was one of the pre-eminent instrument makers of the early 1800s; the firm became Benjamin Pike's Son when Daniel Pike took over on his father's retirement in 1867. There are two pieces of scotch tape that appear to be holding the glass in place and typical oxidation to the brass. Good+ 300-600 **All bids must be placed by end of day Friday, October 30, 2020.
