William Steers is, of course, best known for inserting rosewood strips in plane soles to reduce friction, but he also patented a cutter adjustment mechanism, and the Brattleboro Tool Co. marketed a full line of these planes, this is the No. 403. Actually rarer than the composite sole planes if not as pretty. Original cutter marked with the patent date for the composite soles, wood fine, metal oxidized but undamaged. There's a support rod between the frog and the base of the tote that is clearly original but isn't shown in any of the photos in PTAMPIA. Good+ 200-400
