B59-228 MASSIVE COOPER'S JOINTER. These extra long planes were designed to be propped up on legs with the sole up; they were used by coopers to true up the sides of barrel staves and the boards used to make barrel heads, where a liquid-tight joint was a necessity. This is the longest one we've ever seen at 8' (although Whelan describes one that was 9' long example). 10" by 8". It has a single iron, with a screw adjustment that resembles the one subsequently patented by Daniel Heald. We've seen cooper's jointers made by Heald with this adjustment, but this one is unsigned. It has some decorative carving, particularly around the throat. Bring the pickup; we really don't want to have to ship this monster. From the collection of John Sindelar. Good+ 150-250
