B59-269 NAVIGATION INSTRUMENT. Boyce-Meier Pelorus. Manufactured by the Boyce-Meier Equipment Co. of Bronxville, NY, and marketed as a kit to yachtsmen in the 1930s. A pelorus, sometimes called a "dumb compass" because it lacks a needle, is used to take sightings on other vessels or landmarks; this one has a brass counterweight to keep it level and a clear paper label. From the collection of Dennis Fisher. Good+ 50-100
