The iron plate is marked "Grover & Baker" (which is listed the EAIA Directory as making sewing machines in 1876), and "S.M. Co." It is also marked "Howe's Patent" and with two patent dates of 9/10/40 and 6/22/52, none of which we were able to find. Finally it includes the number "86260" which looks like a patent number but doesn't fit. A fascinating enigma, very clean. From the collection of Hank Allen. Good+ 100-200
