TC25-185 VERNIER COMPASS WITH TELESCOPIC SIGHT. T.F. Randolph. 5" needle with lifting arm, dial has "T.F. Randolph, Cincinnati, O" at north, and "Patented June 24, 1879" at south. Theodore Randoph's patent was for a compass design that would be more compact and easier to carry and use in the field. In addition to the removable telescopic sight that takes the place of sighting vanes, the compass includes the tally counter, crossed level vials, and vernier within the dial to avoid the need for compass arms. The brass is oxidized but undamaged and one of the level vials is dry; otherwise a good example of an uncommon compass. Good 300-600
