TC25-209 INFILL MITRE PLANE. New York Maker. Not signed, but resembles the work of the handful of New York makers who made English-style infill planes for the pianomaking industry. Cast steel body with rosewood infill, 10-1/4" sole, 2" unsigned iron. Most unusually, it has a rosewood lever cap, rotating with a brass insert where the screws attach, and a separate iron band. "Pat. Apl'd For" stamped on top of the projecting sole, which is distinctly American. It has issues: the wood is worn, and there is light pitting on the cheeks and sole and some casting flaws on the sole, and a crack in the heel running into the hole where the strike button is attached. The cutter is also pitted, with chips from the edge, and worn short. Despite its flaws, a unique and intriguing example of the New York planemaking industry. Good- 150-300
