B67-109 LOT OF TWO EXTENDED WIDTH RABBET PLANES. Gardner & Murdock. Both have steel soles that extend slightly beyond the wooden body to permit a more precise rabbet edge not affected by wear to the plane body. One is a very unusual design, with a sole that extends to both sides and separately wedged cutters; the other has a sole that extends only to the right. Unlike many of these planes where the sole is screwed to a flat surface, in these the wooden plane body flares gracefully out to partially support the soles. The double sided one is 7-1/4" long and appears to be applewood, the single sided one is 7-5/8". Both have Gardner & Murdock's A mark and are in near new condition. An exceptionally attractive set of special purpose planes. From the collection of Steve Dice. Fine 200-400
