Y-195. SURVEYORS COMPASS. W.J. Young. Unusually small plain compass with 3-3/4" blue steel needle, silvered dial marked ?W.J. Young Maker Philadelphia" with fleur-de-lis at north, locking needle, cover. The use of ?W.J." rather than ?Wm. J." marks it as one of Young's earliest instruments, pre-1840. Original mahogany box with an unreadable label on the outside, includes sighting vanes. Also includes an engraved plaque and brass square; they were in the box so you get them. Fine 300-600 **All absentee bids must be placed by end of day, Friday, January 24, 2020. Current high bids can be obtained by calling our office at (800) 248-8114.
