B59-403 BRIDLE PLOW PLANE. Union Factory Prototype. This plane, which resembles a Mathieson-style bridle plow, is marked with Chapin's Union Factory mark. It's the only known plane of this configuration, and was thought by Don Rosebrook to be a prototype. It was one of the prides of Don's legendary collection, and is extraordinarily attractive, with a rosewood body, solid boxwood fence and wedge, and brass-tipped ebony arms. The arms have v-grooves along the bottom which fit into matching grooves in the fence, both also brass-lined, as is the groove in the tote that holds the cutter. The skate has a unique round-nosed pattern, which matches a pattern found in Solon Rust's toolbox. See Rosebrook and Fisher, pages 98-99. A plane that truly deserves the oft-misused term "unique." Fine 10000-20000
