B61-99 BREAST DRILL. Wilkinson Patent. Uncommon example of the breast drill patented in 1893 by William Wilkinson of Boston. Marked on the chuck by A.J. Wilkinson & Co., a Boston hardware dealer and, presumably, a relative. Like the other handful of known examples, it's massively built, 17" with a heavy cast iron frame, single speed. The patent is for a sliding lever on the frame that locks the chuck to make it easier to change bits; it works, mostly, but could use a little 3-in-1 oil. Very clean, no rust, japanning nearly complete. Fine 100-200
